African Braille
Centre

The African Braille Centre (ABC) is a regional non-governmental organization based in Nairobi. ABC’s main focus is the production of curriculum learning materials in braille, large print, talking / audio books, EPUB, DAISY Text & Audio and BRF formats for use by visually impaired learners in schools and other learning institutions. ABC also supplies and maintains a wide variety of assistive devices and equipment for visualy impaired learners.

Our Story

Introduction

The African Braille Centre was founded by Sightsavers as an education project, then known as the African Braille Computer Development (ABCD) project, in 1986. It was later registered in Kenya as a regional NGO in 1997. Sightsavers has been walking with ABC over the last 37 years, as the organization continues supporting learners with visual impairment in Kenya and the African region.
